What is BDSM? This is a question that we hear a lot. Even as what does the term BDSM mean? This is not possible to explain in a couple of words because the term BDSM is very big. The term BDSM is a combination of three acronyms: -BD: Bondage and Discipline -DS: Dominance and Submission -SM: Sadism and Masochism These are three separate parts of BDSM but they overlap each other. BDSM is a lifestyle that is shared by many people but a lot of people don’t know what it is. It is referred a lot as ‘kinky sex.’ BDSM mostly involves two participants with one being the ‘Top’ and one being the ‘Bottom.’ The ‘Top’ is dominant and the ‘Bottom’ is submissive. This means that there is always one person that gives up the control over himself with his own permission. People who practice BDSM want to make it very clear that there is no sexual abuse during the activities. The People that practice BDSM are dominant or submissive and like to humiliate or being humiliated, inflict pain or being restrained. This means that there is sadomasochism in BDSM. All these kind of things can be done with bondage, discipline and pain. A lot of BDSM participators feel more attracted to one of these things then to all. BDSM is not really a fetish. Fetishists find objects to be sexually arousing which are not normally associated with sex, whereas BDSM is a group of activities. There is a big overlap in the two communities. A lot of BDSM people use fetish clothing and objects. For example many SM clubs have a dress code that is fetish based. Some of the ‘toys’ that are used in BDSM are: crops, liquid wax, ice cubes, whips, ropes, electro stimulation, chains, handcuffs etc. People who are not in to BDSM are called ‘vanillas,’ after the most common ice cream flavour. |
